6 Ways to Achieve More Every Day

6 Ways to Achieve More Every Day

All of us have the same 24 hours each day. Yet, some people seem to accomplish so much more than others. By utilizing their time better, this group of people are able to accelerate their career, achieve their goals, and enjoy more quality time with their loved ones.

What enables this group to be so much more productive? It often comes down to one thing: Time Management.

The good news is there are many proven techniques for improving your own time management. To help you get the most out of your day, we’ve collected our favourite tips for managing your time better. So, go on, give some of them a try! As they say, time is money.

6 Ways to Achieve More Every Day

1) Be consistent with your calendar!

Accept those meeting invites, create appointments for your own work, and schedule your lunches and breaks! Planning might feel like a chore, but it can help you find more time in your day. Because when you know what you need to do in advance, you can be more efficient at it.

If you don’t have a work calendar that’s sufficient, try Google Calendar. It can be accessed from pretty much any device and can even pull in appointments from Gmail automatically.

2) Allocate time for flexibility

While you can’t predict every last-minute request, you can plan for them. Save yourself a whole lot of stress and mess by allocating time in your day for urgent work that might crop up. The beauty of using this powerful technique? It will force you to be more productive with your other work, and give you opportunities to get ahead when there are no last-minute requests!

3) Create an environment you can focus in

Distractions steal attention away from your important tasks. And, they steal more time than you might realize! Research shows that it takes about 25 minutes to regain productivity after being distracted [3].

So, close that Facebook window, put your phone on silent, and plug in your headphones. Do whatever you need to do to create an environment where you can get work done!

4) Learn to say ‘no’

Stay far away from people or things that drain your time and energy unnecessarily. If a task isn’t a priority for your boss or your own career, consider saying ‘no’ to it. It’s empowering and is one of the most powerful ways you can manage your time more effectively. If it feels like you have never said ‘no’, it’s high time you try it!

5) Delegate tasks when possible

Think about your to-do’s. Are there people in your organization (or roster of vendors) who could complete any of the tasks listed more effectively than you can? If there are, consider delegating those tasks! It not only allows you to focus on your most important items, but also leads to an overall better outcome by leveraging others’ strengths and capacity.

6) Don’t let perfectionism paralyze you

It’s great when you can exceed expectations. However, if you are constantly obsessing over details that are out-of-scope, you could be letting your perfectionism hold you back. Make sure that you clarify requirements and expectations at the beginning of any project. Use this to judge how much time and effort you can put into any project. Strive for excellence instead of perfection.

Now, Get out There and Crush It!

Choose a few techniques you think will work best for you. Give them a try and work on maintaining consistency with the ones that work. Remember, it only takes 21 days to create a new habit [2]. Better time management is just around the corner!
